New Work

Wallis presents a new series of high relief, wall mounted work that reiterates the basic aesthetic principles driving his practice, and in the process, complicate and enliven the visual field by putting light and shadow into an explicit relationship with viewer, eliciting a sense of motion and time and a greater awareness of the wider space that we occupy.

ARTIST STATEMENT

This new series of high relief, wall mounted work reiterates the basic aesthetic principles that have driven my work from the outset. My aims are to complicate and enliven the visual field by putting light and shadow into explicit relation with viewer, to elicit a sense of motion and time, and a greater awareness of the wider space that the work and we occupy. My foremost influence has been Don Judd, (with Carl Andre ascending), but I would also add a number of “minimalist” painters – Robert Ryman, Yves Gaucher and Ellsworth Kelly, to name a few.
