Dead Man’s Bay

Jason Paradis – 2012

The title of the show, “Dead Man’s Bay,” comes from a bay near Kingston with the same name. Paradis did a number of paintings of this site, outside, during his undergraduate at Queen’s University.

In the Main Gallery, Modern Fuel presents Dead Man’s Bay, a painting installation by Jason Paradis. The title of the show, “Dead Man’s Bay,” comes from a bay near Kingston with the same name. Paradis did a number of paintings of this site, outside, during his undergraduate at Queen’s University. One of the paintings that he made during this time will appear as part of the installation at Modern Fuel.

In all of his work, there is a sense of contemplation or of reverie that speculates on a fundamental mystery– this being the result of a lot of camping under an expansive sky in the northern Canadian wilderness. There, questions emerged regarding the existence of something much larger than the immediate world. Paradis is very interested in a moment where the past, present, and future collide. “Dead Man’s Bay,” like his previous exhibitions, will deal with moments from Paradis’s past in relation to moments of his present.
