The 2020s
A Decade of Change
Much like the rest of the world, Modern Fuel went through a large transition in 2020 as any public facing organizations were asked to close their doors to visitors. For the better part of 2020 and 2021, Modern Fuel transitioned to virtual exhibitions, workshops, and makefests in order to maintain a sense of community throughout the closure of the gallery.
In 2022, the organization celebrated it’s 45th Anniversary, with a year full of free workshops for the community, offsite exhibitions showcasing our Archives, and partnership with local arts festivals such as SPAF! and the Women’s Art Festival. Modern Fuel concluded it’s celebrations with a large 45th Anniversary Party at the Tett Centre that welcomed over 200 community members, local artists, musicians, as well as past board and staff members.
To date, this decade has been about the organization’s resilience in the face of change as Modern Fuel has continued to pivot our resources to serve the evolving needs of our members and community. More than ever, the 2020s taught us the importance of creating space for connection, collaborative work, and growth in an ever changing world.
