Adorn & Dissolve II

Madison Tyrell – 2019

Adorn and Dissolve II is the second solo exhibition by the artist Madison Tyrell. The exhibit primarily focuses on a series of oil paintings concerned with landscape and the female form, accompanied by a video that incorporates hand-drawn animations as a digital extension of the project.

My current work is an attempt to understand and explore my experiences within the sexualized culture surrounding my youth. I am confronted with the challenge of expressing what desire, safety, and seclusion feel like as a twenty-four-year-old female. As the subject of sexuality was considered taboo for most of my life, expression and exploration can still feel forbidden. I have used the natural setting as a place to represent myself within these narratives while I am the observer, a silent witness. There is an investigation between the reflective sensuality that exists in both nature and the body and how we occupy space and the reaction that the environment displays. This idea calls for the exploration of deconstruction and juxtaposition between the environment and man. I am trying to find the line where description ends and the freedom of imagination and sensation set in.
