Shelf Life

Erika Olson – 2013

“With a careful hand and sharp eye, Olson chronicles everyday life, including what is traditionally thought of as women’s work: food preparation, cooking utensils and cleaning products.”

In Shelf Life, Kingston-based artist Erika Olson explores the playful and potent space between still-life painting and expiration. With a careful hand and sharp eye, Olson chronicles everyday life, including what is traditionally thought of as women’s work: food preparation, cooking utensils and cleaning products. Although Olson’s work is primarily expressive in its aesthetic, awareness of inequity runs through her examination of food and appetite.
