Rebecca Soudant – 2009
With “History(s) of Canada,” the artist Rebecca Soudant presents viewers with a series of books that cover eons of Canadian history, a vast undertaking, in comparison with other text books that cover a mere five hundred years.
The books are presented in a classroom set up where each desk has a different book on top and each book will reveal a different and surprising view of the history of Canada. In her work, Soudant places an importance on education, and a national shared history
About the Artist
Rebecca Soudant
Rebecca Soudant graduated from the Queen’s Fine Art program and then worked in a factory. It was difficult to get out of factory work but she eventually applied and was accepted for teacher’s college. For the last nine years she has felt lucky to be able to support her art practice as a visual arts teacher at Smith Falls High School.
